Discover The Azores : São Jorge Island

The island of S. Jorge is an island in the Azores located in the central group of the archipelago with an cinematic scenery!

1. São Jorge is known for its delicious cheese, strong cheddar, 80% of the area of this island is covered by pastures and there are several places where you can taste and enjoy it.

2. Velas is a village located on the south coast of São Jorge and draws attention for its architecture from past times, surrounded by green vegetation.

3. The village of Calheta was founded in 1483, it is one of the oldest villages on the island and one of the most charming by the sea.

4. Classified as a Nature Reserve, Fajã da Caldeira do Santo Cristo, is one of the most beautiful fajãs on the whole island, with an immense variety of fauna and flora species in the region, highlighting the tasty clams. (A fajã is a Portuguese term to designate supratidal talus-platform geology constructed from landslides or lava flows.)

5. The Algar do Montoso Caves are a tourist spot for adventure and cave lovers, making it possible to discover the natural cavities of the island.

6. The Simão Dias Natural Pool is a must-see attraction, a spectacular and breathtaking place with easy and quick access.

7.  Ponta dos Rosais is a place of great importance for São Jorge, as it houses a large number of seabirds.

8. Pico da Esperança mainly attracts tourists who love trails and like unique visuals to photograph, due to the rich vegetation and ocean blue.

9. The Ponta do Topo islet is located at the eastern tip of the island, considered a perfect place for nesting birds.

10. The Pool or Zona da Urzelina is one of the places that most attract visitors interested in bathing on the island, located in the picturesque village of Urzelina, on the south coast of São Jorge.
