Discover The Azores : Faial Island

Faial is located in the central group of the Azores archipelago, and is part of the so called "triangle islands", together with São Jorge and the neighbouring Island of Pico, separated by the Faial Canal, a narrow sea inlet about 8 km wide.

1. The historic city of Faial Island, Horta is a charm for all who visit it, has several attractions and for those interested in knowing more about the ethnography of the island, as well as its history and cosmopolitanism, be sure to visit the Museum da Horta and the Scrimshaw Museum.

2. Caldeira do Cabeço Gordo is the most notable and highest point on the island of Faial, with 1,043 meters of altitude. On the site is the famous viewpoint, which offers breathtaking views of Faial.

3. The Capelinhos Volcano emerged from the bottom of the sea, the phenomenon became a landmark in the history of world volcanology. It is interesting to visit.

4. Monte da Guia is another place in the Azores that leaves everyone impressed with so much beauty, with an excellent view over the Monte da Guia Nature Reserve.

5. Porto Pim beach has volcanic origin, and this origin can be easily identified by the elevations added to the site, Monte da Guia and Monte Queimado.

6. One of the most frequented beaches of Faial Island, Praia do Almoxarife, offers its visitors a beautiful panoramic view of Pico Island.

7. Considered one of the most beautiful villages on the island of Faial, Praia do Norte draws attention for its extensive green mantles, fresh air and traditions.

8. The Varadouro Pools were formed by volcanic rocks and it is a very pleasant place, which allows a fantastic view of the horizon over the blue sea.

9. The Botanical Garden of Faial is the ideal place for all lovers of flora!

10. In Faial it is typical to serve, as a starter or main dish, black pudding (or sausage) accompanied by yam. Likewise the limpets, delicious mollusk that appears on the rocks!
